Jennifer Farmer
Master of Arts in Organizational Management

Single mom Jennifer Farmer, 23, of Killeen, Texas is ready to advance her life. A veteran of the Iraq War, she currently serves in the US Army Reserves while working as a substitute teacher. Having already earned her Bachelor's degree in Technical Management, with an emphasis in Human Resources, now she is making the leap to earn her Master of Arts in Organizational Management through Ashford University. "I realized that I needed to do something with my life in order to set a good example for my daughter," says Farmer. "I knew that to do this I would need to further my education."

Farmer says she chose Ashford University due to the military-friendly tuition and the fact that Ashford provides books at no cost to military students. Originally, she had planned on attending another graduate school, and had even hung her acceptance letter on her wall. But then she received a call from Ashford Enrollment Advisor David Bradway, who informed her about everything Ashford has to offer. "Ashford caters to people in the military, and they work with you," she says. So she did some research, and two days later was ready to apply to Ashford.

"Jennifer is the one I call my 'Prodigy Student,'" reports Bradway, her Enrollment Advisor. "She demonstrates the unparalleled determination to overcome adversity on more than one level."

Farmer hopes to inspire other working moms to work hard for their education and achieve advanced degrees. She also wants to make a difference for her fellow soldiers in the Army and Reserves - she has already referred seven other service members to enroll at Ashford. She can see clearly how higher education will improve her future career prospects. But Farmer doesn't want to go to school only for herself - she does it for the people she cares about the most. "With Ashford I have finally realized the impact I can make on others," Farmer says. "I do it for my daughter, whom I love more than life itself. I could not have asked for a better daughter, and she's the reason I need to succeed."
